Type Design: Egyptian Lover

This is a typeface I developed in October of 2019 as a personal project. Egyptian Lover is an all uppercase reverse contrast slab serif display font for headlines and titles, both online and in-print. The intent was to create a futuristic Western saloon style font. I was inspired by the dynamic levels of contrast in woodblock types I had encountered in my letterpress printing class at San Francisco State University. The initial sketches and letterforms were all drawn and inked by hand. These were then imported into Illustrator and then finalized/kerned in Glyphs Mini and exported to be usable on Mac/PC and iOS. My final goal for this project was to have the letterforms laser cut to create a set of woodblock type for use on a printing press.
